Man shot, beaten and struck by a train in Shongweni

According to Netcare 911, the man was lying on the platform at the railway station with his head over the edge when he was struck by a train.

A MAN died after he was shot, assaulted and hit by a train at the Shongweni Railway Station on Tuesday evening.

According to Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha paramedics responded to a shooting incident and reports from the scene indicated the man was shot and beaten at the station.

“He was lying on the platform with his head over the edge when he was struck by a train. Advanced Life Support paramedics and the team arrived at the scene and found the man to have sustained life-threatening injuries. Paramedics stabilised the 36-year-old man at the scene,  and after he was placed on a ventilator and spinally immobilised, they put him into the ambulance,” said Botha.

The man’s condition deteriorated and paramedics started with advanced Life Support resuscitation. Despite all their efforts the man was declared dead at the scene and then transported to a mortuary.
