HILLCREST High School’s senior speech night and prize giving ceremony was held recently and its guest speaker was the talented Matthew Willman.
Matthew spoke to the learners about the importance of imagination as “things are not always what they seem to be and imagination is important in determining one’s trajectory in life,” he said. His other two key points were ability and purpose.
The school’s top three in the grade included Hannah Upfold (third in Grade 12), Mandie Marais (Prixime Accesit Dux) and Mvhusi Mmbara (Dux).
A special award, as it was the first time a Grade 11 learner received the honour, went to Mandy Pitchers who received the Walsh Trophy for the pursuit of excellence.
The school’s headmaster, Craig Girvin, said, “A very significant award, The SRC Trophy for the best ambassador of the school, was awarded to our very much loved, Matthew Legemaate, who is currently in hospital recovering from a recent double lung and heart miracle transplant operation. Congratulations to all of our achievers.”
