Hirsch’s carry olympic torch in Korea
Allan and Margaret Hirsch were proud and honoured to represent South Africa as the first torch bearers for the Winter Olympics.
FOUNDERS of Hirsch’s, Allan and Margaret Hirsch, had the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch on behalf of South Africa at Pyeong Chang, Korea, to start off the traditional relay for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Allan ran 200m before passing the torch over to Margaret for the next 200m. The torch carrying relay will culminate in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics that is taking place in South Korea in February next year.
As the top independent appliance and electronics retail operators in South Africa, the Hirsch’s were selected for the honour of starting off the torch bearing relay by Boo-Keun Yoon, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics.

The Torch Bearing Opening Ceremony took place on Saturday, 16 December and the Hirsch’s were thrilled to be part of this iconic event.
“We are extremely proud and honoured to represent South Africa as the first torch bearers for the Winter Olympics, and on behalf of our wonderful country, we wish the team all the very best at the Games next year,” said Allan.
