STONE Wealth Management partnered with St Mary’s Foundation Trust to host a business breakfast at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof recently that provided key insights about the state of investment in South Africa, particularly with the elections coming up on 8 May.
The overall message from the keynote speaker, Jeremy Gardiner, South Africa’s leading financial trend forecasters and Director of Investec Asset Management, was one of promise and hope telling the audience, “I believe this is the year that the planets are going to align in favour of emerging markets – which will be great news for SA.
“Emerging market assets outperform when they grow faster than developed market assets. This year emerging markets are going to grow at approximately 4.7 per cent and developed markets are going to grow at approximately 2.1 per cent. So, don’t listen to the noise that is going on at the moment in SA and around the upcoming elections. Most of all don’t take that noise anywhere near your investments.
“Politically, the world is actually in a mess. I believe South Africa has bottomed in terms of political mess and we are now heading in the right direction,” Gardiner said.
MC’ing the breakfast was Refilwe Moloto, St Mary’s Old Girl and commentator on strategic economic and financial market development in Africa who also hosts a mid-morning show on Cape Talk.
