Motorists urged not to leave valuables in vehicles

This warning comes after a homeowner's car was broken into at a house in Durban at the weekend.

MOTORISTS have been urged to ensure their valuables are not visible in vehicles.

This warning comes after a homeowner’s car was broken into at a house in Durban at the weekend.

“Thieves forcibly removed the driver’s side window, and the owner’s wallet, containing his bank cards and driver’s licence, was stolen,” said Blue Security operations director, Brian Jackson.
Jackson said the victim’s wallet was later recovered near a railway line.

“About R500 was missing, but luckily the thieves left the cards behind.”

He appealed to people to be wary as it becomes an inconvenience to replace identity documents, drivers’ licence cards, and bank cards adding that business items such as laptops are costly to replace.

“When parked, even for a short period, be sure not to leave handbags, cellphones, money and other valuables visible in your vehicle. At home, make it a daily ritual to remove possessions from your vehicle,” warned Jackson.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
