Bail Shane out of the dog box
To raise funds for the Kloof and Highway SPCA, Shane Cox and other participants will be locked up in one of the kennels and they need your help to get 'released'.
AVID supporter of the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s Dog Box Challenge, Shane Cox, is gearing up to participate in the event once again to raise funds for the animal welfare organisation.
This year, Cox will be locked up with a furry friend as his ‘partner in crime’, Pierre Venter has emigrated.

The annual fundraiser is a cause that’s close to Cox’s heart. For 24 hours, Cox and other participants will be locked up in one of the kennels at the Kloof and Highway SPCA for its annual fundraiser from Friday, 4 June midnight to Saturday, 5 June at noon.
Each participant is tasked with raising R10 000 for their ‘release’.
However, Cox is ahead with his mission as he already started his fundraiser. On Friday, 30 April, he was seen at a local restaurant in Hillcrest, Pintos. On Saturday, 1 May, he was fundraising at the NPN Auto Centre in Pinetown.

In 2018, Cox and Venter spent 48 hours ‘locked up’ and in 2019, the duo raised the bar even higher by being locked for 101 hours in various venues.
The dedicated SPCA committee vice chair and also a member of the investment trust for the Kloof and Highway SPCA participates in this event in memory of his late sister, Cherise Cox.
Cherise, a Metro police dog handler, passed away following a 10-year battle after being shot on duty during a foiled hijacking attempt.
“My sister was a bubbly, loving, honest and kind person who had many pets and loved looking after animals.
“I also do this in honour of all men, women and animals in the emergency services who have passed on for the sake of our community and our beautiful country,” he said.
Cox also served in the KZN anti hijacking unit and with the SAPS and Metro dog units.
He urged people to support this cause.
“Due to Covid-19, we had to host this fundraiser virtually last year. It was not the same and we were not able to reach our targets. With the pandemic’s effect more and more animals are coming into the SPCA.

“Any donation, no matter how small, will be warmly welcomed and will make a huge difference in the running of the Kloof SPCA,” pleaded Cox.
He also thanked everyone who has been supporting the SPCA and the places which have welcomed him to host the fundraisers.
