Man arrested for Pinetown security guard’s murder

The 45-year-old guard was stabbed several times while on duty in Pinetown.

A 31-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by Pinetown detectives yesterday, Thursday, March 17 for the murder of a 45-year-old security guard.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said it is alleged that the deceased was on duty last Sunday at a company on Livingstone Road in Pinetown when he was attacked and stabbed by the suspect several times to the body.

“The suspect is alleged to be a former employee of the company. The deceased was robbed of three cell phones, one belonging to the company and the amplifier. Before the suspect left the premises he allegedly burned the premises trying to destroy evidence,” said Manqele.

Charges of defeating the ends of justice and robbery were also added.

The man was arrested in Wyebank and was found in possession of all items belonging to the deceased were recovered.

The suspect will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 22.
