New play area for Kloof littlies at Memorial Park

The new play gym was funded by the Kloof Conservancy and is more friendly for small children.

THE new play gym at Memorial Park, in Kloof, funded by the Kloof Conservancy, was officially opened on Thursday, June 9.

The official ribbon-cutting was done by five-year-old Sofia Benschop, assisted by her two cousins, Hannah and Isla Mackenzie.

Paolo Candotti, Kloof Conservancy chairman, said the new gym is more friendly for small children as it is not too high off the ground and has all the fun features that young children enjoy.

“Installation was done by Playground World. We funded the project with approval from the Parks Department which manages Memorial Park.”

Candotti acknowledged the good work done by the Parks Department in maintaining Memorial Park.

“The Parks Department is mandated to provide facilities for residents across the entire city, and this places an enormous financial burden on them, particularly in current times with all the demands being placed on the municipality. Within this context, the Kloof Conservancy works hand in hand with the department and helps where and when possible.

“The success of this partnership is now tangibly seen in the great value Memorial Park provides for all residents,” said Candotti.

He added that he hopes the new gym will provide many happy hours for the smaller visitors to the park.
