Specialist wellness counsellor and human resources expert, Alishia Mudaly, said creating a healthy work-life balance is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and productivity, whether you work in a traditional office setting or from home.

“Remember, work-life balance is unique to each individual, so find what works best for you and prioritise your well-being,” she said.

Here are Mudaly’s tips on how to create a healthy work-life balance:

Set clear boundaries: Clearly define your working hours and communicate them to your colleagues. Stick to these boundaries to prevent work from intruding into your personal life.
Create a dedicated workspace: Designate a specific area as your workspace. Ideally, choose a quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions.
Establish a routine: Maintain a structured schedule with regular working hours, breaks and mealtimes.
Prioritise self-care: Schedule time for activities that help you relax and recharge. Take care of yourself outside of work.
Learn to say no: Understand your limits and don’t overcommit yourself. Prioritise and delegate work when necessary.
Disconnect from technology: Set boundaries around your use of technology, especially outside of working hours.
Foster open communication: Encourage open communication within your workplace or team. Discuss workloads, deadlines and concerns openly.
Lead by example: Demonstrate a healthy work-life balance, and support your team members in maintaining it.
Regularly assess and adjust: Evaluate your work-life balance regularly and make necessary adjustments. Be mindful of signs of burnout or stress, and take action promptly.
