WATCH: Learners ‘wowed’ by science experiments

This was the second Science in Action workshop hosted by IQRAA Trust this year.

IQRAA Trust Knowledge Centre hosted their Science in Action workshop at Hunt Road Secondary School on Monday, August 21, where learners enjoyed a series of science experiments presented by invited guest Professor Megandhren Govender.

“I always look forward to our meetings. Dr Baker of Iqraa Trust has a vision for what maths and science should be, especially among the youngsters,” he said.

Govender added that he presented about ten experiments.

Dr Mahmoud Baker, chairperson of IQRAA Trust, said the workshop aims to make mathematics and science learning fun for learners.

“The main objective behind this programme is to show younger learners a practical application of science. The problem we have is that we focus on theory – especially with mathematics and science. Learners get bored and close their minds or feel it’s too difficult. If we manage to relate it to a practical application, they will open their minds and understand,” he said.
