Inspiration blossoms at spring tea

The community of Hillcrest gathered to help raise funds for the Hillcrest High School's Angel Fund at a breakfast event.

SPIRITS were lifted at the Hillcrest High School’s Angel Fund Breakfast Tea on Saturday, August 26. Ladies from the Hillcrest area and surrounds gathered at the school’s hall for the annual event which was aimed to raise funds for the Angel Fund. The event saw local business owners and women of other interests gather to network and share inspiration. The hall was beautifully decorated with a spring theme and matched with the attendees who were dressed in floral outfits.

Speaking at the event was the school’s principal, Denise Knight, who explained that the Angel Fund was set up to raise funds for their learners who are in need.
“The fund was established for children who are short of what they need to make teaching and learning conducive. Over the years, more funds have been required as the need has grown. We are happy to have everyone here supporting us: the teachers and learners who helped organise the event and our sponsors,” she said.

The guest speaker was businesswoman and radio personality Jane Linley-Thomas whose message was to inspire women to uplift themselves from within. Linley-Thomas started her talk by opening up the floor to ladies to share their positive experiences about what they have overcome.
She went on to inspire women, especially mothers, to not be hard on themselves and give themselves a break.

“We spend time on social media observing people’s lives, people who seem to be put together, and we forget to appreciate the little things that have so much meaning in our lives. The things in our lives that seem to be out of place are the very precious parts of us,” she said.

Shortly after her talk, she called some women from the crowd to parade in her clothes from her clothing line.

The day ended with prizes and giveaways from raffles and auction sales, and the prize of the day was for the best-dressed attendee.
