WATCH: Residents scramble for solutions as DSW strike continues
The Upper Highway streets are filled with litter as the DSW strike has continued for over a week.
FOLLOWING the ongoing strike, residents in the Gillitts Park Association have organised for refuse to be collected in the area. Durban Solid Waste (DSW) have been on strike since last week Tuesday (February 27).

Headed up by Tracey Lynch, who organised a number of skips to assist with the removal of rubbish, eight skips and six bakkies’ worth of refuse were collected in the area.
“As we are a conservancy area, the thought of having rubbish bags in the streets for weeks led us to identifying a reputable skip company to assist with removing the waste,” stated the organisation.
In some areas, like Pinetown and New Germany, though, the stench lingers while it’s business as usual for residents and businesses.
The strike continues with the KwaZulu-Natal government, and the eThekwini Municipality has said to put out safety measures in dealing with the strike.

On Monday (March 4), the authorities addressed the public, stating their safety plan for the intimidation of the non-striking workers.
In the meantime, residents are advised to still keep refuse in their properties as the strike continues.
