13th Durban Dance Movement Festival
The 13th Durban Dance Movement Festival will be hosted from July 31 starting at 19:00.
This dance production showcases the best of different styles of dance like hip hop, break dancing, contemporary, ballet, bollywood and amapiano.
Participating cast members come from studios such as Dance Movement, Chelsea Blair Dance Company, Footworx Dance, Shiksha Singh, KwaMashu Dance Theatre, Reddam House, Rhythmic Arts Academy and more.
The festival will be held at the Izulu Theatre, 1 Sibaya Drive, uMhlanga. Tickets are available through Webtickets.

Durban International Film Festival
The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF), hosted from July 23 to August 2, presented by the Centre for Creative Arts at UKZN, is regarded as a leading film festival in Africa.
Founded in 1979, it is the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa, presenting over 70 screenings, all of which are premieres in this region.
The festival also offers workshops, seminars and outreach activities that include screenings in township areas where cinemas do not exist.
DIFF is the only Oscar qualifying festival in Southern Africa, for Best Documentary and Best Short Film; and one of four Oscar qualifying festivals on the continent.

Don’t miss the Absolute Asphalt SA Koi Show
The Absolute Asphalt SA Koi Show takes place at Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North (10 Ranleigh Crescent) on Saturday, August 1 (08:00 until 17:00) and Sunday, August 2 (09:00 until 15:00).
The entrance fee is R30. Children U12 pay R10 and entry is free for U6.
Gerard Loumeau, the organiser of the event, said he is looking forward to a new venue attracting a new crowd.
“We are very excited as this will be the first time that Crusaders sports club in Durban North will be hosting the show. In years gone by we’ve held it at the Shongweni Club but we are hoping to expose the hobby of koi keeping to a new community. We are really expecting a bumper show and I’m confident there will be a good turnout,” he said.
The annual koi show offers the opportunity for aspiring and novice koi keepers, as well as the general public, to gain knowledge about the hobby. There will be a variety of bonsai trees, orchids and a knife vendor at the show.

This year’s annual Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering returns to the KZN Midlands on Saturday, August 1 (08:00 until 17:00) with a full day’s programme of athletics interspersed with Scottish-themed activities, demonstrations, music and dance.
The focus of the day is highland games showcasing brute strength and stamina: tossing the caber, tug-o’- war, walk the weight, the kilted mile, hammer throw, weight over the bar and stone put.
There will be an agility display by the Knight Security K9 dog unit – in full knight regalia – with their youngest and oldest dogs.
Highlights include a display of Medieval Sword fighting, a motor bike drive past, and a Fire Fighters and Fire Truck display from Mooi River.
Tickets are available through Quicket and there is a parking fee (R20) at the entrance.
The event takes place at the Fort Nottingham Museum.
Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.
Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, sun hats, warm clothing and fold up chairs.

Tamia live in South Africa – Durban
The six-time Grammy Award nominee singer, songwriter and multi-platinum selling international R&B superstar Tamia is heading to SA in August.
She will headline The Biggest Women’s Month Celebration Tour Experience on August 6 at Grand Arena, Grand West in Cape Town, August 7 at Durban ICC in KZN and August 10 at Sunbet Arena, Time Square Pretoria.
Tickets are sold at Webtickets and Pick ’n Pay outlets nationwide.
