Assist in combating crime in Hillcrest

The Hillcrest Police is pleading with the community to join them in fighting crime in the area.

THE Hillcrest Police have acknowledged the ongoing issue of crime and drug use in the area. Speaking to the Highway Mail, the station’s commander, Colonel Zama Mabaso, said that though there have been drug arrests made, it is not sufficient enough to address the issue of drug use. Mabaso called on the community to join efforts as they work against these problems.

“The issue of crime is not solely the responsibility of the police alone. It is for that reason we are implementing strategies in fighting crime,” she said. Mabaso said they are engaging role-players in the community, such as the Metro police, security companies, the Community Policing Forum, the taxi association and councillors Amokhosi and Izinduna.

“We also extend the invitation to the community at large, and the business sector, to come on board to fight crime because people who are selling drugs are the community, and people who are using drugs are the community,” she said. Mabaso said the provincial office is also assisting in addressing the crime prevailing in the area.
