One man’s junk is another man’s treasure

This initiative is aimed at those who cannot afford to buy brand new items.

MEMBERS of Kingdom Life Fellowship Church have challenged the old adage, ‘nothing in life is free’. The church is giving away preloved items to those in need in the Queensburgh community.

Senior pastor at Kingdom Life Fellowship, Dietmar Müller, said the initiative was inspired by Biblical principles.
“Part of our faith is to give. This event is purely to give back – we are blessed, and we believe that it’s important to give to others,” he said.

Members of the church and surrounding community brought preloved items together to bless others on Saturday, March 4, for the first time – and Müller says they have already received positive feedback.
“This is the first time we are hosting this initiative, but it’s definitely not the last. We had so many people come here today and say they want to be a part of this and bring items from home to contribute, so we are going to be doing this every quarter,” he said.

Community members can drop off their preloved items at the church.

“People can bring their donations here. We will keep them safe until our next event, when we will advertise and put it out to the community that people can come and take what they need,” said Müller. He added that when it comes to donations – anything goes.

“One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. So far, we’ve had a golf set, cutlery, blenders, cameras, binoculars and toys donated. This is what I say: If you haven’t touched it in a year, then give it away. If it’s just lying around and you aren’t using it, if you give it away, someone else will be able to use it, so you will be able to help someone,” said Müller.

The items are given away free of charge or on a donation basis.
“If you want to give a donation, you are more than welcome to, but the aim of the game is to give it away – to help people in need,” said Müller.

Preloved items can be donated to the church at 17 Hopewell Road. For more information, call 073 457 5863 or email admin@kingdomlifefellowship.co.za.
