Highway Art Group annual exhibition at Watercrest Mall
The Highway Art Group are having their Annual Exhibition at Watercrest Mall from Friday, December 8 to Sunday, December 17. The exhibition is open from 09:00 to 17:00 each day. The Highway Art Group was established over 50 years ago and the group meets every second month at the Westville Methodist Church. Twenty-seven artists will exhibiting their artwork. Paintings in all media are for sale. Ten percent of all sales will be donated to Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife. Contact Irma Isbister on 082 338 8876.

Paw Prints Rescue and Rehoming charity sale
Come support Paw Prints on December 16 in their last sale for 2023. Second-hand and new goodies will be for sale, and all funds raised will go towards caring for the rescued dogs. The sale is open from 09:00 until 12:00 at 4 Clement Scott Road, Botha’s Hill. Please bring your own bag/box to carry your goods home afterwards.
Rescues Got Talent at Gibaland
Paws A Plenty Rescue and Rehoming is bringing Rescues Got Talent. Come show your talent, whether it’s dancing, singing, juggling and more, to support rescue animals this festive season.
Special guests include East Coast Radio’s Stacey Norman as MC, The Highway Mail, DJ Keewiggs and Renegade Imagery. The guest vet judges include Dr Nazmira Khan from Pulse Veterinary Clinic, Dr Yesh Govender from Montclair Animal Clinic and Dr Lee Pachonick from Midmar Veterinary Clinic. Outsurance is kindly sponsoring the event. There are awesome prizes to be won for first, second and third place. The first prize includes a two-night stay for four people sponsored by Gibaland, plus R1 500 from Outsurance. The second prize includes a hamper sponsored by Pappar, plus R1 000 from Outsurance. The third prize includes a couple’s massage sponsored by Tranquility Vista, plus R500 from Outsurance.

Umgeni Steam Railway train trips with Santa
Come see the beautiful sights of the Valley of 1000 Hills on the Umgeni Steam Engine. The trip is roughly 75 minutes. The market is available to browse for various treasures on sale, and there will be food and activities for the whole family. The Inchanga Railway Museum and Thomas and Friends are both open for a visit. Santa will be on board from December 15 to 24. Carols by Candlelight will be sung upon return from the 17:00 trips on December 15 and 16. Tickets cost R170 per adult, R110 for pensioners and R110 for children from 2–12 years. Carols by Candlelight at Kloof & Highway SPCA
Come support our furry friends this festive season at the SPCA for carols at 29 Village Road, Kloof. Carols will commence in Marilyn’s Tea Garden at 18:00 and continue until 20:00. The Durban Regiment Pipe Band will be opening, followed by Belinda Dolphin who will coordinate and lead the carols. Surprise entertainment is planned, as well. The cost is R50 per person and includes a candle. It is R20 for children under 12 years. Dogs are welcome on leashes. Food and refreshments will be on sale with on-site vendors, such as The Vegan Kitchen, Marilyn’s Tea Garden, Paws for Coffee and Langtons Brewery. Virginia Bush Nature Reserve beginners’ hike
Durban Hiking and Adventure has organised a beginners’ hike through a beautiful coastal forest. The hike starts at 14:00. Park and meet on the corner of Margaret Maytom and Hinton Grove (up the road from Virginia Checkers). Please do not park at the main entrance of the reserve. The hike is approximately 6km and is Grade One Easy, and is expected to take 2–3 hours. Tickets cost R70 per person. Please wear walking/hiking shoes with a good grip.
