Lace up for Hillcrest marathon

Take note of partial road closures for the Hillcrest running event on Sunday.

THE Rolando Hillcrest Marathon is on this weekend, Sunday, February 11.

Registration is Saturday, February 10 from 10:00 to 17:00 at Hillcrest Villagers, 5 Crooked Lane, Hillcrest.

There will be an expo at registration where runners will be able to purchase an array of products from shoes to sportswear and everything in-between.

“Come on down, get your race pack, grab a delicious coffee from one of our vendors and browse the expo. We are looking forward to welcoming runners from all over the country and aim to provide them with another top quality race this year,” said Hillcrest Villagers chairperson Sherise Van Der Westhuizen.

The Rolando Hillcrest Marathon is run every year during the second week of February. The full marathon is a two-lap race run along a scenic residential route – the half-marathon is a single lap – with plenty of shade from the trees lining a large portion of the route. The race is ideally timed to use as a Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans qualifier.

The event utilises partial road closures on the main routes through Hillcrest and Winston Park. This may include the closing of certain access routes to Old Main Road from 04:00 to 11:00.

“Partial road closures may create traffic disruptions and congestion. Our marshals are instructed to try and keep traffic flowing as much as possible and as long as it is safe to do so. Please allow yourself some extra time to travel,” said Van Der Westhuizen.

All finishers will receive a quality race shirt and a medal. There will be hydration stations en route and a great vibe, both at the finish as well as on the road.

There will also be food and drink vendors at the finish.
