Conference empowers men
The men attending the conference were encouraged to not be ashamed of asking for help.
THE first annual Amabutho Men’s Conference was held at the Premier Hotel recently.
Hosted by House of Ndlunkulu, the event was for men from all aspects of life to come together and speak about the issues they face as men and to empower one another. It also allowed men to market their business services or products.
House of Ndlunkulu founder Sane Ndlunkulu said this event is greatly needed as men are often blamed for things they didn’t do and people often lash out at them.

“In most cases, no one really tries to understand how they feel and what are they bottling up inside of them. Other men have no father figures, and it contributes [negatively] to their lives as they grow and how they look at life. I believe they [men] deserve to be heard and understood.
“And I hope next year, it will be on a larger scale than this year for this event to change more lives and bring joy to many more homes,” said Ndlunkulu.
Guest speakers spoke on various topics. Sandile Makhanya, known as Flymotion, spoke about his journey as a stand-up comedian in the entertainment industry. He encouraged young boys at the event to stay away from drug abuse and criminal activities because it does not bring stability to anyone’s life, but it destroys them.
Other topics from speakers included ‘self-introspection as men’, ‘starting a business and the challenges that go with it’, ‘gender-based abuse against men’ and ’emotional and mental abuse from society and relationships’.
Other speakers motivated the guests that through the struggles of life, there’s always a way out.
The guests were empowered to do better within their communities and to always ask for help should they need it and not be ashamed of doing so.
Ndlunkulu said she was happy with this conference and thanked everyone who contributed to its success.
