Ongoing delays on Stapleton Road include financial issues
The councillor says the continued delays are having a serious financial impact on surrounding businesses, with parents transporting children to and from school having reported increased difficulties and considerable time lost.
THE ongoing delays to the Stapleton Road project include concerns with the contractor and “unresolved internal financial issues”.
This is according to councillor Melanie Brauteseth who in her recent update on the project said these financial issues include “an outstanding payment from the Department of Transport”.
“These setbacks are primarily due to unresolved internal financial issues and an outstanding payment from the Department of Transport, which has yet to be resolved,” said the councillor.
Brauteseth said this recent update follows a progress meeting which was held on Friday, July 18, at which it was “confirmed that resurfacing works along Stapleton Road continue to face significant delays”.
“It was agreed that, in the interim, all potholes on both sides of the road will be regularly maintained to ensure a basic level of safety and usability. The continued delays are having a serious financial impact on surrounding businesses.

“Parents transporting children to and from school have reported increased difficulties and considerable time lost due to the condition of the road in the past weeks.
“Adding to the concern is the ongoing lack of commitment from the main contractor, who has not yet provided a clear plan or timeline for completion.
“Should this lack of progress persist, the Department of Transport may be forced to consider terminating the contract.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as new information becomes available,” said Brauteseth.
The Department of Transport was yet to provide a response to a media enquiry from the Highway Mail.
