DURBAN always delivers when it comes to concerts, Father’s Day events, and reserve open mornings. Get out and enjoy some of the events listed below for this weekend.
Father’s Day at Glenwood Village
Glenwood Village is hosting a fun family-friendly pre-Father’s Day morning on Saturday, June 20, featuring a community market, a bevy of covetable bikes, and live music. The market runs until 14:00. An evening of storytelling, music & wild west imagination
Come along to the production Love & the Lawless, an evocative and highly entertaining evening where storytelling, live music, humour, and song are seamlessly woven together into a rich theatrical experience. Love & the Lawless is performed by storyteller and singer Barbie Meyer, whose work is known for its vivid narratives, improvisational humour, and the passion with which she sings and speaks. She is joined by guitarist extraordinaire Wayne Coughlan, a highly accomplished musician who has played with some of South Africa’s finest songwriters and bands.

Evening of ballroom and latin
THE St Thomas Church hall on St Thomas Avenue at 190 Stephen Dlamini Road in Essenwood will be the venue of a ballroom & Latin social evening on June 27 starting at 18:30. Tickets cost R70 per person and children under 15 years get a free entry. Free tea and coffee will be available and guests are encouraged to bring their own drinks and snacks. Special Father’s Day at Botanic Gardens
The beloved Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert series returns to the picturesque Durban Botanic Gardens this winter, launching its 2026 season with a special Father’s Day celebration on Sunday, June 21. South African music heavyweights Mi Casa and rising star lordkez will headline the opening concert, bringing an unforgettable afternoon of live music, family connection, and outdoor celebration to one of Durban’s most iconic venues.

Join open morning at reserve
The North Durban Honorary Officers will host their next open morning on Saturday, June 20, at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve. According to honorary officer Terry Goulding, gates open from 08:00 until 13:00 and entrance is free. He added that there is also a bird walk, which starts at 08:00.
“Bookings are only needed for the bird walk. You don’t have to book to visit the reserve. Booking for the bird walk can be done on the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve Facebook and Instagram pages. There will also be a number of indigenous plants on sale which were propagated at the reserve nursery.”
Oumanne host potjie competition
The Battle of the Veterans will heat up Durban this weekend when Oumanne Durban host their annual potjie competition at the Queen Nandi Mounted Rifles. From 09:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, June 20, the veterans will cook up a storm with judging taking place at 15:00. The organisers said they are expecting tough competition.
“Last year’s Battle of the Veterans was a huge success and this year we are doing it again,” said the organisers who called for more people to sign up.
“Who thinks they can unseat the reigning Oumanne champions are more than welcome to join us.”
