Watch: Inanda Dam wins hearts again
Adventure seeker Brendon Cadman says Inanda Dam is back to its best, with clear water and campers returning after years of hyacinth problems.
INANDA Dam is attracting attention after adventure seeker Brendon Cadman highlighted the beauty of Inanda Dam on social media.
Located on the uMgeni River in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, Inanda Dam has long been a popular spot for people looking to escape the city and enjoy nature. However, according to Cadman, the area had previously been plagued by a severe water hyacinth problem.

In a Facebook post that has since received more than 2000 reactions and nearly 300 comments, Cadman shared his excitement at seeing the dam in a much improved condition.
“If you live in Durban and you wanna get outdoors, 20-30 minutes drive from Hillcrest is Inanda Dam, a very special place,” he said.
“What made this visit so special is that there was a big hyacinth problem here, one of the reasons we gave up coming to this dam. It’s not like we didn’t try. We tried to come and camp here, but you had to cut short your stay because of the hyacinth. It just wasn’t worth it. Now it is scenic, the water is clean, and people are back on the water building camping sites. What also makes the visit special is that the dwellings on the hills make you feel like you are in Africa, the side of Africa that we really love: getting outdoors, appreciating nature and its beauty.

Hayley Reichert – I grew up fishing with my old man there long before it became a closed off parks board area. Many happy memories of 3am wake up calls to be down at the water for sunrise. Later we had a boat and also camped (25 years ago). Jumping off the ‘Cliff’ near the dam.
