VIDEO: Adams accuses ‘PKTT’ of lying over security concerns

The MP's matter has been transferred to the Durban Magistrate's Court where he is due to appear on December 11.

MEMBER of Parliament (MP) and leader of the National Coloured Congress (NCC) Fadiel Adams has accused the “PKTT”, the Political Killings Task Team, of lying over security concerns which were stated at the Pinetown Regional Court on Friday (October 16) as one of the reasons why his matter has been transferred to the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

This after the presiding officer at the regional court heard from the State Prosecutor that the SAPS had raised security concerns, and that for Adams’ fraud and defeating the administration of justice matter to be heard speedily, it would be best to transfer it because the roll in Pinetown is too congested.

Addressing the court, Adams’ attorney Devin Moodley said he was “curious” about the security concerns raised by the SAPS because it was the first time hearing of the issue in court.

Moodley said he would engage with the State over the issue of the security concerns.

Adams, who is out on R10 000 bail, is due at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on December 11 for a pre-trial conference.

During an interview with journalists following the brief proceedings, Adams questioned why he and his legal team had not been informed about the security concerns.

“It doesn’t make any sense. Was I supposed to be shot on the way to court if there’s a security concern? They are lying, man, they are playing a delaying game, this is why they are moving my case to another court because they don’t want the crap in the documents on the table,” said Adams.

The MP alleged that “certain generals” were feeling “nervous” now that his matter was closer to trial “because their lies and manipulation and their illegal activities is going to come out”.

He added that the transfer of his matter from the regional court to the magistrate’s one in Durban was an embarrassment for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

In response to a question on the legal action Adams previously said he would take regarding his arrest, Moodley said that process is underway.

Meanwhile, the State is alleging that on November 2, 2024 and January 24, 2025, Adams visited the Westville Prison (Correctional Centre) and conducted two separate interviews with two awaiting trial inmates.

These inmates were in custody for two separate matters, one being the ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa’s murder, and the other inmate was in custody for a partly heard matter. The State is alleging that Adams recorded the interviews.

“In doing so, the accused allegedly misrepresented to the various authorities, including the SAPS, eThekwini Metro Police and officials at the Westville Prison Correctional Centre that he was on official duty.

“Given this impression, authorities then arranged an official escort for him from King Shaka International Airport to the Westville Correctional Centre and back.

“Adams also allegedly engaged with the inmates without authorisation from the investigating team, nor the legal representatives of the inmates.

“Further, the State alleges that he was not officially mandated by parliament to conduct these visits,” said NPA KZN regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara.
