Flame Lily Park fête draws a bumper crowd

Flame Lily Park’s fête attracted scores of visitors and vendors, with organisers praising the community’s continued support.

FLAME Lily Park was a hive of activity recently when the community came out in numbers to support the retirement village’s annual October Fête.

Eric Coetzee, Flame Lily Park general manager, said the event was organised by residents, with funds raised going towards the upkeep of the retirement home in Malvern. Hailing the event as a huge success, he said more than 100 vendors had turned out for the fundraiser, offering a variety of goods and food.

“It really was a huge success,” said Coetzee. “The fête is organised once a year and the funds raised go towards the park and towards things that can be done for the residents.”

On October 10, scores of patrons visited the fête between 08:00 and 13:00. They were treated to delicious food, coffee, cakes and boerewors rolls while browsing the stalls at their leisure.

“The community has really supported us, and they always do,” said an impressed Coetzee. “We must also thank our supporters who are always there to support us.”

His excitement was shared by fête organiser Jane Britz who was impressed by the turnout. “It was a very good turnout and an improvement from previous years,” she said. “We seem to improve every year and it definitely gets a lot better which seems to work for the vendors and Flame Lily Park residents who benefit from the fundraiser.”

The event is Flame Lily Park’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The home accommodates approximately 400 residents. Britz said a bigger and better fête is expected next year when the retirement village prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
