EAAB not effective

Estate Agent Affairs Board is slow to respond.

EDITOR – I am not so sure that one can get help from the Estate Agent Affairs Board as mentioned in the letter “Beware of phony estate agents” (2 August).

I reported my case to them in March which is similar to the one in the Highway Mail dated 2 August 2013, only to beg them for the outcome of my case.

Only recently have they responded and seemed eager to deal with the matter that had been reported to the police. I am still battling to get my money back (±R150,000), which was put in to the Estate Agents Trust Fund in the hope that I was going to use it as a house deposit.

He became greedy and upped the house price resulting in me not getting a bank loan. I gave him one month’s notice and looked for an alternative place to stay. This was end of January.

Up until today he has not returned my money and the EAAB has not helped me.

Just because I do not have money to hire a lawyer, I am not getting any help?

I would appreciate it if anybody out there could help me. I am willing to pay them after getting my money from this estate agent.
