Ponies die after eating party chips

A horse owner accuses the Duck 'n Deck of the death of two of her ponies.

Editor – I read your article on the reptiles at the Duck ‘n Deck with interest. I would like to point out that its not only the reptiles that suffer through neglect.

A few years ago I left my smallholding. I donated my 5 ponies to the Duck ‘n Deck on condition that they would be kept together and my daughter and I would have access to them.

On my last visit to see my ponies there were only 3, I spoke to the farm hand who told me that the two babies were dead as they had eaten too many chips (tartrazine filled snack chips). Apparently all the animals are fed chips, and the young ones managed to eat enough to kill them.

Geoff didn’t even have the decency to call and let me know that they had died.

I managed to remove the other three ponies, only after threatening to report them to the SPCA or go to the papers.

One wonders what other neglect has taken place over the 13 years referred to by the owner.
