Kirsten Chananie and Chris Golding won gold medals for judo at the U20 Youth Games in Zimbabwe recently.

TWO teenagers, Kirsten Chananie and Chris Golding both won gold medals for judo at the 2014 U20 Youth Games in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

The 17-year-old Westville schoolgirl, participated in the U63kg and 18-year-old Chris from Ballito in the U90kg events. These are the only two judoka from KZN that were selected by SASCOC to take part at this event.

Both Kirsten and Chris put in long gruelling training sessions at their gym Gladiator Fight Academy based in New Germany, under the strict supervision by their coach, Johan Duckworth.

It has been a long road to get to this point, but both athletes performed well at the SA Championships. Chris won gold in his division and Kirsten won gold in both the U18 as well as the U21 division. Both athletes have represented South Africa previously at numerous international events.

Their future goal will be the Junior Africa Championships next year.
