Pinetown Cricket Club prepares for 2015/16 club season

Cricket season is underway.

The start of the 2015/16 club cricket season is just weeks away and Pinetown Cricket Club (PCC) is well primed for the challenges of the upcoming season after a sound pre-season campaign.

The first and second squads have already enjoyed two good warm-up matches, courtesy of an internal match and a friendly against recently-promoted UKZN.

Sunday, 20 September sees the first continue their preparations, with two more 20/20 clashes against Chatsworth Sporting and Hollywoodbets Crusaders as they prepare for the season’s start on Sunday, 27 September.

A revamping of the structure of the Castle Premier League this time sees clubs tackle the 20/20 competition – of which PCC’s first team are defending champions – from the end of September until the end of October before the 50-over league format gets underway at the beginning of November.

Pinetown, the oldest cricket club in the province, is relishing another strong showing from their first XI; however, an influx on new players has also added great depth to the rest of the senior men’s teams and promises a fruitful year for the Highway setup all-round.

The senior men’s section isn’t the only to have enjoyed tremendous growth though, as Pinetown relishes the launch of their first ever women’s team this season.

Headed by Cynthia Daye, the enthusiastic squad has already been hard at work in the nets and in the middle as they prepare for their season opener against Simplex RHCSC at Forest Hills, also on Sunday, 27 September.

The club’s junior sides dusted off their bats and bowling boots when they enjoyed their first practise last Friday, with old and new members alike encouraged to get down to the Lahee Parks nets again this week to prepare for the upcoming season.

Senior men’s training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, junior training is from 4.40pm every Friday, while the new women’s team will be practising on Saturdays from 9am to 11am from Saturday, 26 September.
