Double win for Villagers
The Land Rover Durban - Hillcrest Villagers 1ST XV will open the Hollywood Bets Murray Cup this weekend.

THE Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club took on UKZN at the Durban Shongweni Club on Friday evening in a KZNRU first division return fixture.
In the 2nd XV game, the Villagers were dominant in most aspects of play.
Despite a resolute UKZN defence, the match went the way of the home side with a 15 – 0 win. Man of the Match went to Tyron Bakker (forwards) and Brandon Waters (backs).
The 1st XV game, showed that the revitalised UKZN side arrived with the clear purpose of causing an upset. UKZN drew first blood with a well worked try. The Villagers maintained their cool and slowly closed the gaps and attack space.
The second half proved to be a spectacle of good, clean competitive club rugby.
The result went the way of the Villagers 19 – 17. Man of the Match went to skipper, Jono Deighton (forwards) and Keegan janse van Rensburg (backs).
Envirosan Hillcrest Villagers 3rd XV travelled to Durban KP 3 to play DUT last Wednesday night.
A close match saw the young and fast DUT side set the pace, opening the game with a score of 7 – 0. This spurred Hillcrest on and the team responded with two tries.
Two yellow cards saw the Villagers continue the game with 13 men for most of the second half.
DUT ran the ball at every opportunity and finally broke through the defence to win the match 12 – 10. Man of the match went to Luke Rasmussen (forwards) and Charl De Klerk (backs).
The Villagers’ 1st XV will host the opening round of the Hollywood Bets Murray Cup this Saturday at the Durban Shongweni Club against a Premier Division 1st XV club from 3.30pm.
Matchday is at 2pm with the Villagers’ 3rd XV hosting Ogwini Bafana from Lamnontville.
