Ward 10 Councilor Tex Collins dies

Democratic Alliance leaders send their condolences to the Collins family as they learn about the death of Tex Collins.

WARD 10 Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Tex Collins, has just passed away. Collins has been the ward’s councillor since 2018. He had found favour in the community he served so they ensured that he retained his position in last year’s Local Government elections.

DA leader John Steenhuisen, among other politicians, announced the sad news on their Facebook pages and passed their condolences to the Collins family. Steenhuisen said Collins has been serving for 20 years, and he had first met him when they were putting up posters for the Eddie Lion-Cachet by-election.

“Tex was a deeply unique individual who was never scared to share his views, often with colourful language and analogies – many an opponent was told to ‘go pee up a stick’. He also had a huge capacity for empathy and caring for others, as anybody who knows him would have experienced,” read the post.

Steenhuisen said Collins has always been dedicated to the party as seen by his constant worry of missing out on work.

KZN DA member of the KZN legislature Meyer described Collins as a mentor and a friend to the underdog or servant and ‘a man that always spoke truth to power, and who gave his life to making our country a better place. The father of the West Durban team, thank you for the greatest blessing of having been able to know you,’ read Meyer’s post.
