Residents invited to comment on water by-law

The deadline for submission of comments on the draft water services by-law is extended to April 30.

The City of Ekurhuleni has given residents until the end of the month to make submissions on the new draft water services by-law.

The extension has been granted to ensure that more members of the public are catered for before the new by-law is approved and comes into effect.

The draft water services by-law combines the content from two previously approved by-laws for water and wastewater, as well as a new section, to comply with current legislation and service requirements.

The city would like to express gratitude for the participation and interest already shown by communities and the business sector in the public consultation process thus far.

“All citizens are users of water and sanitation services. It is, therefore, important for the public to have the opportunity to provide their suggestions on the draft by-law before it comes into effect.

“We, therefore, believe that the extension we have approved will give stakeholders enough time to review the content of the by-law and make informed comments that can help shape the final version,” said head of the department for water and Sanitation in the city Thokozani Maseko, appealing to more people to take interest and participate in the process.

Members of the public are reminded that comments can be submitted as follows:

• At customer care centres, where the draft by-law can be viewed.

• Written comments can be sent to the head of the Department of water and Sanitation, City of Ekurhuleni, 6th floor, Boksburg Civic Centre, corner Trichardt and Market streets.

• Emailed to waterservicebylaw@ekurhuleni.gov.za
