All White Gospel Picnic, a tribute to Vuyo

The awards will be held as a tribute to esteemed gospel legend Vuyo Mokoena.

On November 24, gospel fans will be wowed by the sterling line-up of stars like Khaya Mthethwa, Neyi Zimu and Ayanda Shange at the All White Gospel Picnic and, for the first time, look forward to the newly added Lifetime Achievement Awards.

These awards will be held as a tribute to esteemed gospel legend Vuyo Mokoena.

Vuyo was born in Duduza and is regarded as a musician who had a deep passion for gospel music. The upcoming All White Gospel Picnic at the Carnival City Festival Lawns will mark a decade since his death from a brain tumour.

The loved vocalist used his talent to preach the gospel of self-love, discipline and responsibility. At the height of his career, Vuyo was the frontman for the renowned multi-award winning group, Joyous Celebration, widely considered as the custodians of gospel music in Southern Africa.

There is no doubt that Vuyo’s uplifting vocal range, his formidable physical presence and energetic power enhanced the quality of his music and its impact on the psyche of his audience.

The Vuyo Mokoena Foundation, together with the All White Gospel Picnic, will celebrate the highly gifted artist with an exclusive performance by spectacular soul sister Kholeka, accompanied by powerful vocalist Sipho Ngwenya and the same live band that use to perform with Vuyo.

“We are grateful that there are people who want to celebrate Vuyo. Music nourished his soul and he would be extremely proud to hear two remarkable artists, Kholeka and Sipho, performing some of his greatest hits. I am a fan of their music and I know they will amaze fans with the tribute to Vuyo,” said Tebogo Mokoena, wife of the late gospel maestro.

Following the special tribute, there will be a short award ceremony where the Vuyo Mokoena Foundation will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be accepted by Tebogo.

“The Lifetime Achievement Award will be a permanent feature of the All White Gospel Picnic going forward. It is time we acknowledge talented gospel artists who use their talents to bless us with gospel hits,” said Vusi Gcabashe, All White Gospel Picnic spokesperson.

Two MCs will grace the various stages: Thami Ngubeni, as well as festival spokesperson Vusi.

Gospel music fans can look forward to enjoying a spirit-filled day of praise with performances from Kholeka and Sipho Ngwenya, Abathandwa, Lebo Sekgobela, Neyi Zimu and many more.

The festival gates will open at 10am and picnic baskets and cooler bags will be allowed at a cost of R80 each.

A food court will be available on the day for those wishing to purchase food and drinks at the event.

Tickets at R250 (general), R350 (golden circle) and R650 (VIP) are available at Computicket. Strictly, no alcohol will be allowed inside the venue.
