Your baby’s skin is delicate and prone to irritation, dryness, chafing, and rashes. The good news is there’s much you can do to protect your baby from these skin problems.
Taking care of your baby’s skin doesn’t have to be complicated. Here a few tips on how you can keep your tot’s skin beautiful, soft, and healthy.
- When it comes to mealtimes, babies are messy! Parents often turn to wet wipes to clean their baby’s face but constantly wiping your baby’s face can leave the skin dry. To soothe and prevent a chapped nose and cheeks, take a facecloth soaked in warm water and gently dab the affected area instead of using a wet wipe. Once the skin is clean, apply your child’s moisturiser, gently rubbing it into the skin until it has been absorbed. Follow this same routine two to three times a day, including when they wake up or go to bed.
- Ensure your baby is well hydrated. Water nourishes their body and their skin.
- Don’t overdress your baby as doing so can cause their skin to suffer heat rash. Instead, dress your baby in breathable layers of clothing, which can be removed if the weather warms up.
- When bathing your baby, make sure the water isn’t too hot – or too cold. Once bath time is over, pat your child’s skin dry and apply another layer of cream before dressing.
- There are many different soaps and skincare products on the market. When it comes to your baby’s skin, avoid harsh soaps, lotions that contain additives and preservatives, and products that are heavily fragranced.
- Sunscreen should be an important part of your baby’s daily skin routine – no matter the season. Choose a sunscreen specifically made for sensitive skin and one that is easy to apply.
