Germiston targeted in SAPS crackdown on counterfeit goods worth more than R500 000
Police confiscated counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods worth more than R500 000 during a three-day crackdown across Germiston, Langlaagte and Cleveland.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has carried out a series of successful operations targeting counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods in Cleveland and Langlaagte, Johannesburg, and Germiston, Ekurhuleni, between June 23 and 25, 2026.
Working alongside the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, brand protectors and the Department of Agriculture, police confiscated counterfeit consumables, cell phone accessories, illicit pesticides and other illegal goods valued at more than R500 000.

The first operation took place on June 23 in Cleveland, where counterfeit consumables and illicit pesticides worth approximately R8 600 were seized.

On June 24, officers conducted an operation in Langlaagte, where counterfeit goods valued at R156 666 were confiscated. Authorities also recovered illicit honey and pesticides worth approximately R194 935.
The final operation was conducted on June 25 in Germiston, where SAPS confiscated counterfeit consumables, cell phone accessories, illicit pesticides and illicit liquor valued at R162 340.

During the operation, compliance notices were issued to 14 shops, along with one prohibition-of-sale notice.
SAPS has urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected counterfeit or illicit goods to law enforcement authorities.
