CoE remains tight-lipped on second 5-day power outage in Kempton areas

“The stories are that they cannot find and repair various faulty cables. Another hearsay is that we have no power because Ekurhuleni owes Eskom money. What is true? We don’t know. Please help us.”

Kempton Park residents have again been stuck without power for five days and counting.

Numerous residents have come forward to express aggravation at the power outage in Pomona, Bredell and Brentwood Park.

This follows the week-long power outage that hit the area at the end of January.

One desperate resident, Werner Kotze, told Express that residents of Pomona Extension 3 are concerned about food rotting due to freezers and fridges not working.

“The stories are that they cannot find and repair various faulty cables. This is their excuse after five days,” said Kotze.

“Another hearsay is that we have no power because Ekurhuleni owes Eskom money. What is true? We don’t know. Please help us.”

Ilané Kruger stated in an email, sent early this week to senior officials of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) including the city manager, MMC of Energy and the mayoral office, that they have had no power since Sunday and 6 000 homes are affected.

“Other than the fact that you failed, once again, to fix the problem, you are also unable to give a restoration time. I am so sick and tired of the constant no water and no power situation we as Kempton residents have to deal with all the time,” wrote Kruger.

Kruger also expressed concern about frozen food rotting.
