SAPS arrest 287 suspects for various offences

Three suspects were taken into custody for drug-related offences and five for selling liquor without licenses.

Police officers in Ekurhuleni recently arrested a total of 287 suspects for various offences.

The arrests were made by officers from the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies.

On May 3, officers from Thembisa SAPS arrested two foreign nationals in Winnie Mandela Zone 2.

One of the men was found in possession of unlicensed firearm.

The second man was arrested when he offered police officers a bribe of R2 200 for officers to release his arrested friend.

Detectives arrested 191 suspects during their suspect tracing operations on May 4 in Ekurhuleni policing precincts.

Of these arrests, 131 suspects were nabbed for contact crime, 11 for contact-related crime, 31 for other serious crime, 13 for property crime and 31 for gender-based violence related issues.

A further 69 suspects were arrested during Operation Shanela conducted in Ivory Park on May 4.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni.

Among those arrested were 26 illegal immigrants and nine intoxicated drivers.

Three suspects were taken into custody for drug-related offences and five for selling liquor without licenses.

A Hyundai 120 was seized after preliminary investigations revealed that it was a cloned vehicle and the engine was tampered with.

Detectives arrested 23 suspects for crimes ranging from assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, house robbery, armed robbery, malicious damage to property and theft.

District commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended the officers.

“I applaud all members of the SAPS for fighting crime in our communities and still encouraging communities to continue to work hand in hand with the police by providing accurate information regarding crime.”
