Deadline for comment on water services by-law draft extended – CoE

The extension has been granted to ensure that more members of the public are catered for before the new by-law is approved and comes into effect.

Citizens of the City of Ekurhuleni have until the end of April to make submissions on the new draft water services by-law.

The extension has been granted to ensure that more members of the public are catered for before the new by-law is approved and comes into effect.

The draft by-law combines the content from two previously approved by-laws for water and wastewater, as well as a new section, to comply with current legislation and service requirements.

“All citizens are users of water and sanitation services. It is important for the public to have the opportunity to provide their suggestions on the draft by-law before it comes into effect.

“We, therefore, believe that the extension we have approved will give stakeholders enough time to review the content of the by-law and make informed comments that can help shape the final version,” said head of the Department for Water and Sanitation in the city Thokozani Maseko.

Residents can submit their comments at customer care centres, where the draft by-law can be viewed.
