Misused municipal vehicle confiscated by EMPD

The EMPD reiterated to those who make use of council resources that such resources are meant to serve the public at large for the purpose of service delivery.

EMPD’s Standards and Integrity Unit impounded a council-issued vehicle after it was found that the vehicle was misused by an employee of the CoE.

The vehicle was impounded in Thembisa on May 30.

EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said that officers were travelling from Thembisa to Kempton Park when they noticed an unmarked white Ford Ranger bakkie driven by a female COE employee from the energy department, travelling in the opposite direction.

“Officers stopped the vehicle and a driver walked straight to them,” said Thepa.

She added that when the law enforcers told her about the council’s policy, the driver walked away before the officers could finish explaining the policies.

The motorists then entered the vehicle and drove away.

“Officers did not pursue the driver because she had a child in the vehicle.

“Instead, they drove to the Thembisa energy department and waited for her to arrive. Officers immediately confiscated the vehicle,” she said.
