Hijackers let children go before they flee with stolen car

The vehicle was tracked down to OR Tambo Airport's cargo section 16 hours after the hijacking

A metro employee was hijacked at gunpoint at her home in Hospital View in Tembisa on Thursday evening.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) spokesman, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, said a firearm had been placed to her head by an assailant who demanded keys to her VW Polo.

“The driver was with her mother and children who were deeply traumatised by the incident. Fortunately, the perpetrators allowed the driver to let the children out of the vehicle before they sped off,” he explained.

Investigations, he said, were immediately initiated by the EMPD Investigation and Tembisa Precinct Units.

“Their efforts bore fruit when the vehicle was tracked down to OR Tambo International Airport’s cargo section’s parking lot 16 hours after the hijacking. Investigations are afoot in an effort to apprehend the suspects responsible for the hijacking.
