Gauteng police intensify province-wide operations
34 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with six arrests for the possession of these vehicles. One firearm was recovered accompanying one arrest.
Police Emergency Services (PES), comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 49 suspects, recovered 34 motor vehicles and one firearm between June 12 and 18.
Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 15 arrests for serious crimes including assault, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, theft, driving under the influence of liquor, pointing of a firearm, house burglary, use of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

In further policing, 27 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigation continues in these cases.
The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
