Miracle that no-one died in ‘chaotic’ N12 accident – rescuers

Rescuers found several vehicles and debris scattered across the highway

Rescuers at the N12 pile-up on Friday afternoon said they were amazed that most people involved in the accident only sustained minor injuries and that no-one was killed.

The accident happened around 4.30pm near Etwatwa, involving 23 vehicles.

Tebogo Magoro, spokesperson for Netcare 911, said various emergency medical services attended to at least 23 people.

“It was determined that most of the occupants sustained minor to moderate injuries except for a six-year-old who sustained serious injuries. Paramedics stabilised the child on the scene before Netcare 911 airlifted the patient from the scene,” Magoro added.
