Pewter ware on sale at fun day

THORNHILL Manor Retirement Village resident, Ann Raats, shows off two old English pewter beer tankards that have been bought by an Australian collector.

A veritable treasure trove of antique English pewter ware will be on sale at Thornhill Manor Retirement Village’s family fun day in Lakeside, Modderfontein, on October 11.

Donated by an unknown benefactor, the pewter ware, comprising mainly tankards, has been valued by a recognised and highly respected dealer in Adelaide, Australia.

These are a ‘bucket and ridge quart pot’ and a ‘pint pot’ valued at R1 150 and R600 respectively.

There are altogether 19 further items that will interest anyone who enjoys antiques or pewter ware, with values ranging from modest to expensive.

Some of the items date back to the mid-19th century.
