Another motion of no confidence against Zuma
President Jacob Zuma faced a motion of no confidence in his leadership in Parliament on March 3.
The motion was brought forward by Agang SA. As much as there are people who have no confidence in our president, I can’t help but wonder if Agang is just trying to stay relevant since we are approaching the local government elections. The last time I heard anything about Agang was when its leader announced her early retirement in politics after just a few months into the game.
As much as they raise some important issues, I can’t help but wonder what their real motives are, I mean we all know how politicians will try and do anything to stay relevant. We saw what happened at the SONA when DA members arrived wearing all black and walked out just after the EFF was shown the door.
Despite who raised the issue and whether it was raised out of concern for the country, maybe it is time the ANC looked at the situation more seriously. Perhaps the ANC should seriously consider that President Zuma might not be good for the country. Never in our young democratic South Africa have we had a president with so many scandals.
If you talk to some of the ANC members, they will tell you their true feelings about the president (off the record of course) but they are always quick to tell you that when they talk about the ANC, they are not just talking about Zuma because the movement is far bigger than one man. Those who always wonder why people still vote for the ANC, you have your answer right there.
I believe the last election did send a message to the ruling party because as much as they still won the election, their numbers dropped considerably.
Perhaps it is time they looked into their house and see this vote of no confidence as a chance to put their house in order. I know a lot of people who would like to see the president step down but I honestly don’t think that would be good for the country. At the same time, I feel that the president needs to keep up with his promises and get the job done without making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Recalling a president is not as simple as some people might think. There is a lot that needs to be considered, like how it would affect investments.
I personally don’t see this vote of no confidence coming up with any solutions, because at the end of the day if the ANC doesn’t see it fit to remove the president, there’s not much the opposition can do. The motion can go on and the members of parliament can cast their votes, but I don’t see the ANC cabinet voting against one of their own.
They know where their bread is buttered.
