A man shot and killed his wife and then himself in Birchleigh North on Tuesday morning.
According to W/O Mahlodi Langa of Norkem Park SAPS, the woman was moving out of the house she shared with her husband on Lydia Street when the tragedy occurred.
Langa said the woman hired a bakkie and driver to move her things. The husband helped her pack before things got out of hand.
The woman was almost done when she returned to get her curtains. While she was sitting in the bakkie, her husband started to swear at her and told her he was going to kill her and then himself.
He then took out a firearm and shot his wife, who died instantly. He walked around the bakkie, into the middle of the road and turned the gun on himself.
He shot himself in the head and also died instantly.
Langa said the driver of the bakkie, a Nigerian man, said he thought he was going to die. He did not sustain any injuries but did suffer from shock.
According to Langa the couple had problems in the past. According to him the couple first lived in another house in Birchleigh North. They couple broke up and the woman moved out.
The man then bought the house in Birchleigh North where the shootings occurred. He and his wife reconciled and she moved back in with him.
Langa and a neighbour said they had been staying there for about two months.
