According to a witness, the man was killed last Monday. Ivory Park SAPS communication officer Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said the witness was in the area collecting wood when she saw two men fleeing the scene in a white Opel Kadette with no registration number. They sped off on Republic Road.
“The witness claimed that she saw the two suspects tying the deceased’s hands and feet with his boot laces. She called some community members for help and managed to extinguish the fire with sand. They phoned the paramedics but the victim was certified dead when they arrived,” said WO Sekgobela. She went on to say that there are many cases open about people being burnt to death in the same open veld.
“We are requesting community members to come forward with any information that can lead to the arrests of the suspects. A Somalian was shot and wounded when he was hijacked in his Opel Corsa while parked in the same open veld. The victim alleged that he was robbed by the other Somalians, who also robbed him of R20 000 in cash,” she said.
