NORKEM Park SAPS arrested a 28-year-old man for armed robbery near Birch Acres Mall last week Wednesday after he and three other suspects robbed a man at gun point.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, the victim, who was robbed of his cell phone and R500 on Umvumbu Street in Birch Acres, called for help and the community started to chase the suspects, who managed to escape.
The victim then stopped a patrolling police vehicle. The officers, Const Mogale and Const Nukerui, together with the victim, spotted one of the suspects next to Birch Acres Mall. The suspect was arrested and found to be in possession of a 9mm pistol and six rounds of live ammunition.
Molokomme said a man who saw the arrest, alleged the same suspect shot him in the leg. According to Molokomme he said it happened when the community chased the suspects after the crime initially took place and he was passing by. The gun shot victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The police went to the suspect’s residence where they found 431 grams of dagga worth about R500, Molokomme said.
The police are still looking for the other three suspects. Anyone with information can contact Det/W/O Kenny Mthembu on 072-767-3756 or 086-001-0111.
