TWO suspects, aged 24 and 26 armed with a sword and knife, were arrested on Saturday when police found them attempting to rape a woman near the railway lines next to the taxi rank on Pretoria Road.
“Three women were walking to the rank at 00.20am when they were approached by five men. Two of them pulled out sharp instruments, which turned out to be a sword and knife and demanded the women’s cell phones,” said Capt Jethro Mtshali, Kempton Park SAPS spokesman.
The suspects then took one of the women to the railway lines, leaving her two friends with the other three suspects. She was instructed to undress.
“Fortunately the police were in the area and saw the scene. They rushed to the woman who was found being undressed by the two suspects and they were arrested,” said Mtshali.
The other three suspects fled and police are still looking for them.
The two men in custody will face attempted armed robbery and attempted rape charges.
