NORKEM Park SAPS arrested six suspects, aged between 25 and 40, in Chloorkop for being in possession of suspected stolen copper cables last week Thursday.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesman for Norkem Park SAPS, they received a tip off about a suspicious white Toyota Quantum mini bus with six men inside parked on Hytor Street. The suspects tried to flee but were cornered with the help of Rabie Ridge SAPS and the Tembisa Cluster before they could escape.
Molokomme said the suspects failed to provide proof of ownership of the cables, weighing 500kg and worth about R33 000.
The police suspect that all six suspects are from Limpopo and were trying to sell the cables in Gauteng. Further investigations are being done to determine whether the suspects are connected to any other crimes of cable theft in all the provinces of SA.
