Company targeted twice in 2 days

A sports apparel company on Dann Road in Glen Marais was robbed and broken into in the space of two days.

During the robbery the robbers got away with only R10, a necklace and two cell phones but the company was hard hit by the Thursday break-in.

Staff of SportWorx, which designs and sells sport apparel, was robbed at gunpoint last week Tuesday at about 9am. Owner JP Schoeman’s mother, René Jonker, was among the 11 people, including a client, who were held up.

Shoeman said the robbery was captured on their CCTV cameras. Luckily they saved the footage before thieves stole the recorder and cameras last week Thursday during the break-in.

Two guns were pointed at Jonker and Schoeman during the armed robbery, one in their sides and one to their heads. Jonker, who can be seen being pushed around by the robbers on the footage, pushed the panic button the first chance she got.

On the recording one can see the security vehicle driving up to the shop just as the criminals drove away. Jonker said the robbers walked into the store with their firearms already drawn.

“They were so blasé about it,” she said. She said she could still hear one of the suspects load their firearm.

Schoeman said during the armed robbery the robbers forced the staff into a back room, where he (Schoeman) took the key and locked themselves in.

Jonker was kept in the front with the robbers where she had to show them where everything was. Schoeman said he told them they had no cash on the premises, which was true.

During the break-in last week Thursday between 3am and 4am, the suspects got away with 18 computers and their screens, all their electronic equipment and most of their stock.

Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, confirmed the cases. No-one had been arrested.
