Friend killed during fishing trip

WHAT should have been a fun day of fishing for two friends turned into a tragedy when one was killed by accident.

The man was killed on Thursday last week when his friend accidentally shot him while firing a warning shot to chase away robbers.

According to Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesman for Kempton Park SAPS, the two men, one in his 70s and one the other aged 43, were fishing at Blaauwpan in Bonaero Park when two suspects walked up to them. The suspects asked for a cigarette and then left.

Mtshali said they returned shortly thereafter with firearms and demanded money and cell phones from the fishermen.

The elderly man pulled out a firearm of his own and fired a warning shot, accidentally killing his friend.
