A security officer snuffed the plans of three men who tried to break into a house in Van Riebeeck Park.
Cobus Heymans of PHS Cops Security said he was on patrol at about 1.30pm on Wednesday last week when he spotted the three at the gate of a house in Citra Street, trying to derail the gate.
They were driving a silver Mercedes C Class.
When the men spotted Heymans driving past, they sped off. Heymans tried to block the Merc with his car but they drove past him.
Before they got away the man in the passenger seat pulled out his firearm, trying to shoot at Heymans.
Heymans retaliated and shattered the back window by firing a shot before the passenger could shoot. The Merc disappeared on the P91 in the direction of Edenvale.
Heymans said the Merc was recovered the same evening at 8pm in the bottom basement of Carlton City Mall. Investigations revealed it was stolen a day before.
